In or about 1987 I had my first experience working with a “Board of Directors” working with Larry Leon Hamlin and the North Carolina Black Repertory company of Winston-Salem whose legacy exist to this day at NBTF.org as the Director of Development. I was hired out of New York City where I was in pursuit of my own career as an actor working with a company of about 19 young actors, one who included Isiah Washington. We all donated $100 every month and rented a local church in Brooklyn, NY where we produced nights of showcases under the Artistic direction of Hal DeWindit, an original Ebony model. Some of my early advisors were Gordon Parks and Shaw University Thalmus Rasulala
